This is a new course for students learning Russian as a foreign language at level B1 of CEFR and above. It is designed for 80 classroom hours of study with a teacher and aims to develop communication skills in social and cultural settings.

The textbook consists of 5 separate modules: Mother Nature Has No Bad Weather; Russia and Russians; Traditions and Customs; Let's Go to the Cinema!; What Russian People Like.

Each module is designed for 16 academic hours. The structure allows teachers to build an independent course of study based on students' objectives, purposes, motivation and available hours of study. The course provides authentic literary, scientific and popular-science texts, as well as extracts from documentary and feature films and informative messages from the Internet.

Throughout the course students will practise all types of language skills. They will read and analyse texts and learn to produce written and verbal texts in different genres themselves. Audio and video materials will help students to gain important social and cultural knowledge, learn new vocabulary and grammar constructions, and find out about particular stylistic peculiarities of spoken Russian.

The course also provides practical exercises which involve modern technologies for everyday communication. Students will learn how to write emails and handle various email enquiries in companies, how to post reviews about their trips on travel websites, how to communicate in chats and on social media, how to conduct interviews, and how to prepare adverts and presentations.

The course will also help students to enrich their knowledge of the history, geography and culture of Russia, and will introduce them to the most famous Russian people.
