The textbook is based on the historical and literary principle: the subject of study is the literary process as a whole, the change in verbal and artistic forms, the work of the greatest writers and a detailed analysis of individual works.

In accordance with the federal component of the State Educational Standard and the exemplary program (Grade 10), Russian literature is considered in the context of world culture. In connection with the requirements of the standard, the chapters on Pushkin, Lermontov, Nekrasov, Fet, Tyutchev, Chekhov, Ostrovsky have been revised and supplemented.
