In his last partly autobiographic novel, Gennadij Prashkevich draws,in a cruel and unadorned way the pictures of the hungry years after the Second World War, full, at the same time, of hopes for some kind of special, bright future. But it becomes obvious to the reader, that those hopes are not meant to come true.
