Michail Bulgakov

(1891-1940)

Russian journalist, playwright, novelist, and short story writer, whose major work was the Gogolesque fantasy The Master and Margarita. Bulgakov used satire and fantasy in most of his works. Considered as an "un-Soviet" writer he survived the attacks from the officials, although many of his works for a long time remained censured and unpublished. Til nowadays Bulgakov stays as one of the most influent, and one of the most read russian writers of all centuries, able to take away the breath of the passionnate as well as totally apathetic readers.
